Criminal Law

Have you or a loved one been arrested and charged with a crime? It is critical that you contact an attorney as soon as possible. You have rights and we will be there to ensure that you are protected and receive due process. Firm Partner, Attorney Jeff Decker has over 30 years of experience working directly with law enforcement and the District Attorney’s office and can advise you every step of the way.

The Law Offices of Laurel A. Buchanan Inc. also has a network of attorneys working throughout Riverside County, San Bernardino County, and Los Angeles County, who collaborate and work together to provide you with the best possible representation. Our Attorneys have experience working in prosecution and defense and know the process from both sides.

Our attorneys have experience in misdemeanor and felony matters, including but not limited to:

Assault and Battery, Spousal Battery, Theft, Robbery, Breaking and Entering, Property Crimes, Car Theft, Drug Crimes including, possession, sale, manufacturing, and distribution of a controlled substance, traffic violations, DUI, DWI, and reckless driving.

Expungement:

Have you already gone through court? We can assist you with Expungement. Many times individuals serve their time but find that their court record is still hindering them. A criminal record can affect your ability to get a job, rent a home or apartment. Filing for an expungement may allow you to lower felony charges to misdemeanors and improve your criminal record.

If you have completed your sentence and would like to discuss how an expungement might benefit you, contact us today for a free consultation.

What Can I Expect After I am Arrested?

Within 48 hours you can expect an arraignment hearing if you’re in custody. At this hearing, the court will read the official charges against you and will determine the amount of your bail. Bail amounts are based on the charges and the individual’s criminal history. If you have legal cause, an attorney may be able to argue for a lower bail amount. Once bail has been posted you will be conditionally released until your trial or until a plea deal is reached.

What Do My Charges Mean?

The first few days after an arrest can be overwhelming. We will talk you through the process and your charges. We will help you understand what the charges mean and the potential outcomes of your case. Attorney Jeff Decker has detailed knowledge of the criminal code and will take the time to answer all of your questions.

What Can I Expect If I Retain?

Making the decision to use a public defender or hire an attorney is difficult. Private attorneys can provide you with individualized attention and be there throughout the whole process. At the Law Offices of Laurel A. Buchanan Inc., we are focused on finding the best possible solution for YOU, rather than focusing on processing your case as quickly as possible. We have the resources to examine all of the evidence and negotiate for you and if your case goes to trial our attorneys will work for you.

Fees:

Fees for criminal cases vary based on the charges, your prior offenses is any, and other factors. In some instances, there is a one-time set fee or “flat fee”. Call us today for a free estimate. In most cases, an initial down payment is required. Our office can make payment plans.

Remember the first hours and days of a criminal case can be critical to gathering evidence to support your case. We will walk you through your rights and the criminal court process and be there every step of the way.
